Michael Metzler is a distinguished expert on historical percussion. He studied in the percussion class of the Leipzig Academy of Music, with training and exams next to Hermann Naehring (Berlin). He specialized in ethnic percussion with Ahmed Subhy in Cairo and Glen Velez in New York. More important than the list of his teachers has meanwhile become the list of his students, including excellent drummers such as Andrea Piccioni and David Kuckhermann.
Since 2001 he has been casting historic bells and metallophones and manages a small shop for bells, percussion and ethnic instruments (www.glockenladen) . In 2015 Michael Metzler appeared at the Sydney Festival (with Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin), in Brazil (with Elbipos), with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and choreographer Sasha Waltz, singer Cecilia Bartoli, Bach Consort Vienna and the Hilliard Ensemble.
