Markellos Chryssikos studied harpsichord in Margarita Dalmati’s class (Vinianelli School of Athens) from where he received his diploma unanimously with honors, first prize and the school's excellence. He continued in Paris with S. Romeo and O. Baumont, at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with K. Gilbert and S. Rampe and completed his studies at the Conservatoire in Geneva (Prix de virtuosité avec Distinction) with Ch. Jaccottet of which he was the last student.

 

He has participated as an assistant conductor in many award-winning recordings for the companies MDG, SONY and DECCA (directed by G. Petrou). He is a founding member of the old music ensembles Ex Silentio and Latinitas Nostra with which he has recorded and presented in directed format works of the baroque repertoire (Athens Festival, Athens Concert Hall, Greek National Opera – Alternative Stage) but also original productions based in the combination of Baroque with other types of music (Byzantine, Ottoman, electronic, etc.)

He has conducted the Venice Baroque Orchestra on a double album on the “Olympiad” of Metastasio (Naïve), which won the international award Choc Musique. As a conductor, he regularly collaborates with Kamerata and has collaborated with Athens and Thessaloniki State Orchestras, as well as with ensembles abroad such as the Irish Baroque Orchestra, Bach Consort Wien, Kammerakademie Potsdam, while he has been a guest of Kammeroper in Vienna for three consecutive years.

 

He has performed at the Theater an der Wien, at the Wigmore Hall, at the Bayreuth Opera, at the Händel-Festspiele in Halle. He curated and presented the show “Palimpsisto” on the Third Program of the Greek Radio. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Greek National Opera.
